The role of our Working Group is to work with other partner organisations to promote and celebrate Arts and Culture in the city and to help make Canterbury a more inspiring place to live, work and visit.
- Working with the Sidney Cooper Research Group (SCRG) who organise talks & events promoting Canterbury-born artist Thomas Sidney Cooper, including publishing a new book on his work in 2025, by Darren Henley CEO of the Arts Council, and inaugurating an Annual Sidney Cooper lecture by prominent local artists.
- Working with the Sidney Cooper Research Group which is establishing a charitable Trust (charity number pending) with a view to restoring the currently empty Sidney Cooper Gallery on St Peter’s Street as a community owned Arts Centre. - Working with Canterbury BID, Canterbury City Council and other arts and cultural organisations to make Canterbury a better place to live, work and visit.
- Organising a public lecture by the renowned under water sculptor and environmentalist Jason deCaires Taylor
- Representing the Canterbury Society at the CCC-led ‘Cultural Strategy Discussion Group’
- Working in partnership with The Beaney to discuss and promote arts and cultural events
