Panel discussion with Louise Bareham, Faversham Town Clerk; Chris Stanley, driver of town council for Whitstable; Charmaine Keatley, Chair of Kent Association of Councils; Clive Powell, adviser; Jan Pahl, Canterbury Society

Changes in our society demand changes in the ways we organise the provision of our services and local decision- making processes. It is likely that KCC will be broken into three or four unitary structures with one for East Kent. How will Canterbury citizens make their voices heard? Even today Canterbury District Council (CCC) is controlled by councillors that live outside the city. Would the setting- up of a town council for the city allow for better services and funding for the city? This debate will consider the pros and cons of setting-up a town council for the city and how this can be done. There will be the opportunity to learn from the experiences of Faversham’s highly successful project as well from other places in the county.
