Heritage and the Climate Crisis:- How protecting the Past can save the Future
You are invited to the Canterbury Society’s Annual Heritage lecture. Henrietta Billings, Director
of SAVE Britain’s Heritage, will talk about the high-profile campaign to stop Marks and Spencer
demolishing their landmark building on Oxford Street. The future of this early twentieth century
department store is at the centre of a raging debate over the future of our high streets and the
climate crisis. Henrietta’s talk will chart the story so far – the campaign, the public inquiry and the
implications for the future of high streets everywhere.
The event will be chaired by Dr Sophie Vigneron, Co-director of the Centre for Heritage. There will be time for questions and discussion and she and John Walker, from the Canterbury Society, will talk about the setting up of a Canterbury Heritage Network. Everyone is welcome.
